so i have this idea. make an ingame mission that is like a tutorial. it shows you how to craft, how to build, etc. and you can customize the ship, like all ships you can always change the race. there are ingame missions when the races have started to stick out from each other. lets say there are 3 races. the first time you get the ingame mission you can choose one of them. later when you can choose more than 1 race you should get this choice. so you can choose a race even if the player chooses one before. so you can have a slider for that.
if you would like to use the ingame tutorial i think you can do it. you can just make a mission that works like a tutorial and show people how to craft and build, and you can choose a race and show people what it looks like. you could do it for all races. if this idea sounds interesting to you please let me know.
maybe you can use the in-game tutorial too. i dont know if the ingame is really created for people that dont know what to do. but if you have never played Eve i dont think you should change the race. for you the ingame is the same as having a tutorial and you would never know that you can change the race.
also why dont you use the ingame tutorial when you want to learn something? you can do it in other ways as well. but if you want to make it possible to change your race and pick a ship you should add the option for that.
