[S2E9] Old Flames [PATCHED]

The episode opens with some brief history of the Great Cataclysm that ravaged the world 250 years prior. Known also as The Day of the Cataclysm, it was an unprecedented event where flames scorched the Earth and threatened to burn everything humanity had built. Through the ash, a man named Raffles I is said to have traveled the world with his disciples until they found an "unsullied flame." Raffles used that flame and humanity's technology to create Amaterasu, which still supplies all of Tokyo's power.

Meanwhile, the fight outside flares up as Tempe raises the heat against the group of young Fire Soldiers. Shinra's Adolla Links with the Woman in Black cause him to recognize that she is calling to him from inside of the Tabernacle. After realizing this, Shinra asks Ogun to keep Tempe busy as he tries to gain the Evangelist's Grace from the Woman in Black. Trusting his friend's plan, Ogun busts out his insanely impressive Flamy Ink, which wraps his body in tattoo-like flames. While Ogun can only use this ability for a short time before overheating, it temporarily grants him strength rivaling Captain Burns of Company 1.

Gossip Girl: Sometimes the stars align for two old friends to go together. But sometimes they align for two old flames to totally combust. Wonder what the sky holds for S tonight. Friendship. Or fireworks.

We hear Jong-woo's opinion about the date first, as he says, "I'm glad they only held hands." Jokester Han-bin quickly cut the tension by pointing out that he was sat between Jong-woo and Jin-young "to keep them from fighting." The special then switched to the girls, and after Seul-ki reacted to the clip, she remembered that Jong-woo will watch it. "Look away, Jong-woo!" she says. We may be reading into this, but the reactions seem to be from a couple who want to protect their partners' opinions, rather than former flames.

At home, Aleida burnt a newspaper of Wernher von Braun after it became known he was a Nazi, which caught fire along with a doll, which she threw to a blanket which also rapidly caught flames. Her father walked in and put the fire out, and asked her why she did that. She argued that she could have put it out, and that it was fine, but Octavio mentioned it was not and asked her why she was obsessed with fire, to which she responded that she wanted to be in the fire.
